AND if you listen to them that way I actually get very very tinyly paid. Woohoo.

In the Sufi tradition, "the Friend" is a name to call Consciousness. Consciousness wants to BE. This is LOVE loving to love.

We are so lucky to be included in this miracle and to be able to express the joy of existence, in my case, through music.

But of course you can listen here too and hopefully with a decent sound system. The hours we put into getting the best possible sounds and treatments deserve this.

Don't you think?

Myfriend

Tracks featuring my friend Jing Ming, the guqin player, from Beijing.

In 2023 I went to China.. There I met some musicians who play traditional instruments. I fell in love with the sound of the guqin. They were keen to collaborate on some tracks and these three singles are what we have so far produced.

The guqin tune at the end of Cloud Realm was written by Daoist Master and musician Gu Yun Lan Tian and is played here by guqin player and teacher Jing Ming. I wrote the song and the lyrics and played and sang everything else on the track.

Daoist Master Gu Yun Lan Tian and her colleague, Anila, a Buddhist nun,  played me this mantra and suggested that I record and sing an arrangement of it. This I did. My new friend Jing Ming played the guqin on this track and she and her partner, Xie Jialin joined me in the singing.

BIRDSONGS - sing for survival

Click on title to link to Spotify.

This song collection is available to buy or to listen to on most streaming services (excluding Soundcloud.)

Synopsis of BIRDSONGS:

The birds believe there are children who care and will help them survive and thrive. There are so many mean pests that threaten to eat them and break their eggs. But a peaceful life can't be guaranteed. They also know they need to help themselves and decide to hold a conference beside Lake Rototoa (Warrior Lake) to make a list of the problems that humans can help them solve. They all agree to meet at sunrise.

An Elvis impersonator shark decides to abandon the bright lights of showbiz and return to the Kaipara Harbor to live its best life as a predator. But catching prey in murky water isn't easy. This shark is serious about native tree planting as a way to limit sediment running into the rivers and sea. The water must be a lot clearer for predators and diving birds to actually see what they are trying to eat.

The kuaka (godwits) arrive on South Head for the summer just in time to add their global viewpoint to the conference. They share the high adventure of their epic journey.

The pests, who were definitely NOT invited but who turn up anyway, gloat about how well they are surviving and vow to carry on being as annoying as possible for as long as possible.

The bees tell the terrifying story of their battle with mites which make them dopey and parasites which cripple their wings.

The gannets and the penguins celebrate their popularity and life in their sanctuary. They encourage all the other creatures to stay hopeful and positive.

The kiwi explain the inns and outs of their housing crisis and the tui tell of losing their home to Kauri die-back disease. And everyone agrees that the humans are doing a great job creating pest-free areas for native creatures to inhabit.

We also hear about the plight of the Muriwai gecko (only 50 left in the world) and the South Head fairy terns (only ten more than that). Not good at all.

Oh my goodness, life isn't easy for the native creatures of Aotearoa. But the children love them and are willing to help save them so they can live on into the future.

ABOUT Anna

I have covered a lot of ground over the years of my artistic life. On this site I've collected the work that I've most enjoyed producing and which may be useful or enjoyable to others interested in similar creative areas.

I've written and produced music in various genres, from Celtic (port a'bial), pop, jazz, to New Age, folk, and musicals for both adults and children.

Mystical poetry is my great love along with funny kid's plays.

My life has followed a path involving environmental concerns and the search for a deeper spiritual reality than is obvious. A body is not all we are.

I would enjoy hearing from anyone interested in any of my work or projects. Please feel free to contact me through the contact form.
